Former hockey player Boris Valábik (37) is the proud father of a little princess named Viktória. His wife Lucka gave birth to him in February 2021. The girl was born in the University Hospital in Martin, to which the athlete donated 5,600 euros from the Čo ja viem competition. The prize went to the neonatology clinic. Boris remembered a painful event in the ward.
Two years ago, Valábik had to fight for the life of his own daughter, who suddenly stopped breathing. “The worst experience of my life is trying to bring my own child to life. I am even more grateful that we have something like this here in Slovakia“, he said, his face showing pain.
He started rescuing his daughter after the alarm went off on the monitor. He and his wife tried everything possible. “At first, we turned the little one over, patted her back gently, positioned her, but nothing worked. She started to turn red and turn blue around her eyes and mouth. I hugged her to me and started giving her artificial respiration. When I held her in my arms until my knees buckled, because the thought that I wouldn’t save her, that I might lose her, I couldn’t help myself,” described Boris in the past for Life.
While he was giving to his daughter artificial respiration, Lucka called 112.”They advised us to put the little one on a hard mat and start massaging the heart. Then she started breathing for us again,” he finished the story, which still makes the blood freeze in his veins. His princess managed it and is growing like water. Today she makes her parents very happy, but neither of them will ever forget the terrifying moments.
