Frederico Varandas guarantees that Sporting’s growth in the “last 4 years” is “factual and unequivocal”. However, he emphasizes that there is still a way to go to “let go of the stigma of the big 3rd once and for all”, something he hopes to achieve by the end of his term, in 2026. “By 2026 our strategic objective is completely defined: to continue focusing on only on us and we will take decisive steps to consolidate and reinforce the status of great among greats in Portugal. Reposition Sporting in a permanent and consolidated way, in a structural and financial way, as a big club with objective conditions to fight for all national titles in a natural way. In other words, to drop once and for all the stigma of the ‘3rd great’ that they wanted to stick to us in the last 4 decades”, he said, during the 41st edition of Roars of Leão, which takes place in Leiria. In addition to the satisfaction felt with the club’s evolution in the most diverse areas – “growth in membership and its activism, record GameBox sales, record membership fees and record merchandising revenue” – the leader of the green and whites highlighted his “pride” for the performance of the team led by Rúben Amorim, which he sees as the “strongest and most consistent” of the games played in the championship to date.
“I am very proud of the performance of our coach and our players. A third of the championship has already been played, we have already been to Braga and Luz, we are at the top of the table and to date we have been the strongest and most consistent team. We are as we set out to be: to compete in all the national titles and have another good European season”, he underlined, also applauding the performance of the sports: “We are in the image of football. Once again in a position to compete in all the national titles and do good European performance”.
