Reggio Emilia Ribbon cutting for the renovated gym Virginio Menozzi Of Villa Sexwhich last summer was affected by redevelopment and plant efficiency works carried out by the Fondazione per lo Sport del Municipality of Reggio Emilia. The structure, currently managed by the Pegaso sports club, now allows athletes to enjoy a renovated, comfortable gym suited to the technical needs of multiple disciplines. Thanks to the interventions carried out, for an investment of around 100 thousand euros, the facility is ready to become an attractive hub and a municipal and provincial centre, suitable for hosting higher level championships, in particular as regards basketball and wheelchair basketball, also offering a quality facility for volleyball. The inauguration will be attended by the mayor Luca Vecchi, the sports councilor Raffaella Curioni, the president of the Sports Foundation Mauro Rozzi and the director of the same Foundation, Silvia Signorelli. «The Villa Sesso gym is a further and important redevelopment of a neighborhood sports facility, made available to the many youth teams in the city, who also thanks to these works will be able to count on a renewed and more efficient space both from a both from a performative and overall accessibility point of view”, said the mayor Luca Vecchi and the councilor for Sport, Raffaella Curioni. «This achievement – they added – is a commitment made and maintained with grassroots sport, in collaboration with the Sports Foundation, putting dedicated resources for the overall efficiency of the city’s sports facilities. Furthermore, in the next few weeks we will be able to put out a tender for the new multi-purpose track also planned at Villa Sesso, to further increase the sporting heritage of our city. There will be various disciplines that can be hosted in this new structure, which will have functions dedicated to sport, but also to the cultural and socio-recreational entertainment of this important sporting and social hub”. Every month the Villa Sesso structure is frequented by around a thousand people, including athletes and students from local schools. Among the interventions carried out also the arrangement of critical issues related to the flooring, thanks to the reuse of the innovative removable parquet previously used at Palabigi by Reggiana Basketball.
New baskets, certified protections for safe competitions and a new volleyball facility were also installed.
Over the summer months, the Menozzi gym was among the ten in the city affected by energy efficiency works: in fact, new LED lights were installed there which will allow better lighting and, at the same time, a saving in costs and emissions of carbon dioxide in the air.
