The management of the English Premier League punished Everton by deducting ten points for violating financial rules in the period ending with the 2021/22 season. The highest penalty in the competition’s history will be applied with immediate effect. The club announced it would appeal.
In the current table after the 12th round, Everton was in 14th place with 14 points. The deduction means the club will drop to penultimate 19th place. Burnley is only one score worse.

In March, Everton reported for the fifth season in a row that it managed a loss, calculating the deficit for the year 2021/22 at 44.7 million pounds. Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) allow Premier League clubs to lose 105 million over a three-year period, according to the commission’s calculations, Everton recorded a deficit of 124.5 million.
Everton’s management admitted at a commission hearing in October that they had crossed the line. But the verdict shocked and disappointed them. “The club does not accept the decision that he did not act in good faith,” the club said in a statement. “Neither the severity nor the amount of the penalty imposed by the commission is a fair or adequate reflection of the evidence presented,” he added.
