YouTube and TikTok under investigation for alleged lack of control over content for minors

Meta was also flagged weeks ago for similar circumstances on Facebook and Instagram

The European Union initiated an investigation applicable to the platforms YouTube (United States) and TikTok (China), respectively, in order to determine what type of content minors receive through them, as well as evaluate whether their developers comply with international protection standards in their algorithms, according to international media.

In this sense, the European Commission required both companies to provide detailed information, before November 30, on the measures adopted to comply with their obligations regarding protection of minorsin accordance with the new legislation in the old continent on digital services.

If any violation of the regulations is proven after an evaluation of the efficiency of the policies implemented to safeguard the integrity of children and adolescents, the process could result in financial sanctions with fines that could exceed 6% of the global turnover of the companies involved. .

This case is added to a legal action filed in the United States against the company Meta last October, due to the fact that its Facebook and Instagram products would have embedded in their programming language alleged features considered addictive for minors, according to the complainants.
