What was it like to jump from struggling Boleslav to the national team, with which you celebrated three wins?
I haven’t experienced such a winning streak for a long time, I wish I could transfer it to the club as well. It was a wonderful experience. After a long time, I could see the boys from my year around me again. I could see how much progress they had made. For example, David Tomášek. When I saw him four years ago and now, that’s a huge progression. It motivates me a lot and I want to move like this too. A wonderful group gathered. Everything worked, thanks to which the results worked. It had a charge, everyone wanted to show off in front of the new coaches.
You are now trying to do the same in Boleslav. How did you perceive the appeal of Jiří Kalous?
It’s hard for me to comment. Jiří Kalous also did a great job here. Management probably wanted to clear the air a bit.
You also met at the national team meeting. Did you deal with his ending together?
We just cracked a few jokes. I’m a little sad that we didn’t find time to sit down together and discuss everything in detail. I don’t know how Mr. Kalous ended up in Boleslav, so I didn’t want to dwell on it. But that doesn’t matter now, we have new coaches and we want to start winning again.
How did the arrival of Richard Krále and David Havíř enrich you?
I’m here with them just a few days after the international break. But you can see that all the boys are working hard now and fighting for a place. Nobody is certain. We go like screws in training. We are in a bit of trouble, at the very bottom of the table. We have to start winning.
What does it take?
We don’t score goals. Hockey is simply about scoring goals, and that won’t change. It’s hard on the psyche. We mustn’t think too much about it. We need to go to the gate more and hope that something will bounce back. But I liked the performance against Hradec, we were very much on the puck. It seemed to me that the hands of the attackers were a little untied. I believe it will bear fruit in the future. We just need a little luck.

Eighteen games and only seventeen goals in five-on-five play, that’s a really scary statistic.
That’s where the shoe pushes us the most. But we don’t throw flint in the rye. We are still sorting it out, we are all trying to get out of the crisis. There are a lot of guys in the cabin who aren’t afraid to speak up.

Come to think of it, I could do more. (smiles) But when I myself feel that something needs to be said, I will say it. I mainly try to encourage and praise. I myself know very well that when someone compliments me, it is a huge boost for self-esteem. I can also yell, explode, but it’s a very fine line between when it’s beneficial and when it’s not. I mostly regret it in retrospect.

Before the season, you said that you were looking forward to returning to the Czech cabin. Did it meet your expectations?
If I ignore the results, then absolutely. I understand everyone and can talk to them about anything. I have friends and family around me, and traveling is also significantly easier. I’m in my comfort zone. My son started going to kindergarten here, we are happy here.
So how do you look back on the engagement in Lulea, Sweden, almost at the Arctic Circle?
It’s been an amazing year and a half from a hockey perspective. One of the best jobs in life. Quality competition, excellent background and service. My girlfriend and little one also really liked it there and they made it a lot easier for me, I thank them for that. It was just difficult when I was there alone for the last six months. There was no one to really talk to.
