A man has been arrested after his ex-girlfriend’s body was found in a fridge at his home. Chad Christopher Stevens, 42, is accused of tampering with evidence by disposing of the body of his ex-girlfriend Heather Louise Schwab. This was reported by People, referring to court documents distributed by the NBC television channel.
On Sunday, investigators searched Stevens’ home. Law enforcement found a refrigerator “wrapped in a large amount of plastic wrap” in the man’s kitchen. Accounts of police officers indicate that the device was “suspiciously closed and hidden” with a “piece of sheet metal”.
Inside the refrigerator, police found a “blackened human body,” which was later identified by the Collin County Medical Examiner. According to the medical examiner, the body was that of 35-year-old Heather Louise Schwab.

A relative of the woman released a statement to local news agency WFAA, saying the family was “extremely saddened and devastated” by the news.
“We appreciate all the messages our family has been receiving. We are extremely grateful to the McKinney Police Department for their hard work and dedication. We would like to protect the privacy of the family and her children,” the statement said.
Heather’s mother, Tamara Schwab, reported her missing on June 28, according to affidavits. Tamra told investigators that while she hadn’t spoken to her daughter in a year, she had been talking to a neighbor to find out how Heather, 35, was doing. It was the neighbor of the young woman who announced that she had not seen her for months.
Tamara told investigators that her daughter lived with her boyfriend, Stevens. According to Tamara, their relationship was “filled with violence”. Heather has repeatedly tried to leave her boyfriend, but without success, her mother claims.
People reports that Heather received threats from Chad that he would “kill her and hide her body somewhere.”
Stevens stated that Heather had left him a year earlier and he had not seen or heard from her since. This is stated by the investigator who took over the investigation.
The investigation reached a dead end as the detective was unable to find any leads on Heather’s last whereabouts.
On Nov. 3, Tamra reported to the police department that she heard from Stevens’ ex-wife that he “killed Heather and buried her in his backyard.”
On Nov. 6, investigators used a McKinney Police Department drone to take pictures of Stevens’ property. Law enforcement found “several anomalies” in the backyard of his home.
During the investigation, another friend of Stevens called to report that she had been assaulted by the man. This led to a warrant being issued for Stevens’ arrest.
He was called in for questioning in which he admitted to “hiding Heather’s body in a refrigerator after she died” at his home on July 26, 2022. According to written statements, he said he “didn’t know what to do.” , when she died, so he put her in a refrigerator. He also told investigators that he and Heather had “numerous physical altercations” and that he had “threatened her on several occasions.”
Investigators cited by People noted that on August 12, 2022, they received a call from a witness who saw “a female brandishing a firearm” at Stevenson’s house. The hypothesis of the investigators is that Heather’s death occurred at that time, “Vesti” reported.
Stevens, who has previously been charged with theft, driving while intoxicated and assault, according to NBC, was arrested on charges of tampering with evidence.
He was booked into the Collin County Detention Center, the publication reported.
