Today, depositor Abdullah Al-Hajj stormed Fransabank – Verdun branch located at 730 Verdun Center in Beirut, demanding his deposit. The depositor armed himself with two bombs, which caused panic among the customers and employees, so the depositor decided to take them out.
After the depositor entered and threatened to detonate a bomb, the security forces came and surrounded the place, and the situation continued for more than 6 hours, during which the security forces were unable to extract the two bombs from him.
Al-Modon learned that Al-Hajj’s deposit amounts to about $3,800 and goes back to one of the social programs withdrawn from the insurance company. Banks have also withheld insurance funds, just like deposits, which has made the situation of policy holders the same as depositors.
According to a source, the bank did not make any serious offer to reach a solution with the depositor, but rather bet on the success of the security forces in controlling Al-Hajj and removing him from the bank. The stagnation continued until one of Al-Hajj’s sympathizers, a well-known merchant, donated the amount that the bank refused to pay, $3,800, to the depositor.
It is noteworthy that Al-Hajj suffers from a health problem, in addition to losing one of his eyes in 2020 after being hit by rubber bullets in the vicinity of the House of Representatives. He had undergone long treatment at his own expense.
