A source familiar with the talks confirmed to the German News Agency (DPA) that the potential agreement includes the release of 50 women and children prisoners held by Hamas in the besieged Gaza Strip.
The agreement would lead to a cessation of fighting for a period ranging between three and five days, and an increase in humanitarian aid received by Gaza, as well as the release of a number of Palestinian female detainees and children detained in Israeli prisons.
The source stated that Hamas agreed in principle to these points.
An Egyptian security source said that the agreement includes the release of 50 women and children held by Hamas, in exchange for the release of 75 women and children detained by Israel.
The sources explained that the aid passing through the Rafah crossing will increase to 200 trucks per day, and fuel will be brought in daily.
Efforts to reach a ceasefire and secure the release of prisoners have been continuing for weeks, while Egypt and Qatar act as mediators between Hamas, Israel, and the United States.
However, calls for a ceasefire in Gaza have proven to be very controversial.
Israel categorically rejected European leaders’ calls for a ceasefire, and indicated that a longer ceasefire would give Hamas the opportunity to gather its ranks again and prepare for more attacks.
