Difficulties are “renewed” and may take a more serious turn

The Caretaker Minister of Public Health, Firas Al-Abyad, briefed representatives of UN and international donor bodies and organizations on the emergency plan drawn up by the Ministry in anticipation of any Israeli aggression against Lebanon, in an expanded meeting attended by the United Nations Resident Coordinator, the Humanitarian Coordinator in Lebanon, Imran Reza, and the European Union Ambassador to Lebanon. Sandra de Waal, the representative of the World Health Organization in Lebanon, Dr. Abdel Nasser Abu Bakr, the representative of the United Nations Population Fund in Lebanon, Asma Qardahi, and a number of diplomatic figures and those involved in joint projects implemented with the Ministry of Public Health.

Minister Al-Abyad began the meeting by presenting a presentation on the work of the newly established Public Health Emergency Operations Center, the training program to raise the readiness of health workers, and the Ministry of Public Health’s plan to raise the readiness of hospitals and primary care centers.

He stressed that “the health emergency plan is divided into two main axes, as follows: raising the readiness of hospitals to provide immediate treatment for potential war-wounded people, whether in the border areas or in areas that are likely to constitute a medical and treatment focal point. And securing health care for citizens forcibly displaced from their homes by strengthening services.” Health care and pay attention in this field to primary care centers in the Lebanese regions as they provide good services at nominal prices.”

Al-Abyad pointed out that “the emergency plan aims to keep pace with the repercussions of developing events in the short term, but its importance lies in its effects in the longer term, starting with training programs that include male and female nurses to deal with emergency situations, and the development of human resources that this leads to, to what is being done.” “It has been achieved in terms of increasing readiness, securing supplies, improving equipment and modernizing them as much as possible.”

He said: “The difficulties are renewed at this stage and may take a more serious turn.”

Al-Abyad mentioned, “The importance of coordinating all medical and humanitarian work with the Ministry of Public Health through the Emergency Operations Center to ensure that resources are not lost and goals are not dispersed, so that care services are secure for everyone who needs them.”
