Usam Nîmes remains on four consecutive defeats when it hosts Nantes, Saturday November 18 at 8 p.m. at Parnasse. A major challenge for a Gard team that has lacked a bit of everything lately.
Even the captain of Usam Nîmes (7th, 10 points), Julien Rebichon, would almost lose his communicative good humor: ”It’s certain that when you have four defeats in a row, it’s not the joy of living in training.” Before the reception in Nantes, presentation of what is wrong.
Injuries to key players
”When we recover a player, we lose another”, laments coach Yann Balmossière. The pivot Hugo Kamtchop-Baril returned as quickly from his injury to the Crusaders that he returned to the infirmary (knee, against Cesson, 8th day). ”The injuries to Benji (Gallego), JJ (Acquevillo), Mohab (Abdelhak) and Hugo (Kamtchop-Baril) are very detrimental to us,” observes Rebichon. ”Today, adds Mickaël Guigou, advisor to President Tebib, the reality is that we have no less than four absent holders and that we perhaps do not have the bench, or at least not the means behind to assume these roles. It’s up to the players to take on different responsibilities and, all together, to optimize our current strengths.”
Too many gaps in the game
”At some point, when you lose more than 15 balls in a match and you miss too many misses, you pay for it,” Rebichon gets annoyed. His coach continues: ”In the first half, in Ivry, we lost eleven balls. Eleven balls is the maximum you should lose in a match. We didn’t recognize the players. Nothing to do with the previous week of quality training.”
A damaged trust
”We must not have trembling hands in matches, explains Rebichon. The one against Nantes comes at the right time because we have to show that Cesson and Ivry were two accidents and that each guy wants to do well.”
From his bench, Balmossière has his vision of things: ”We feel that the ball has more weight, there is a loss of confidence. Maybe I minimized the psychological impact of the setback against Aix (31-32 at home).”
Now what do we do?
”It’s a difficult time but we have to lift our heads and get moving to get going again, says Rebichon. We have to stop believing that guys don’t want to. When a guy has a shot, he wants to sink it. It’s not just the players or the staff. We lose together and we win together. It’s a group.” ‘It’s also up to the coach to find solutions, to get something going,’ notes Balmossière. Everyone must ask themselves the right questions about themselves, without it being a questioning.” A shot of “H” against Nantes and here we go again?
