During the Web Summit event in Lisbon, experts consider that artificial intelligence (AI) can serve to make both the productive sectors and the arts more efficient, but it is still necessary to establish the ethics system so that people’s rights are not violated .

Another sector in which the ethical component was also highlighted is in the application of AI in the production of creative industries.

The specialist Matthew Blakemore pointed out that AI serves entertainment companies to improve their profits by designing better consumer offers, but he clarified that there are doubts about what the limit is in collecting user data to design them or the risk. what it means for jobs in the sector.

“If we think about ethical concerns, the question that doesn’t get the green light here is how far to go in collecting personal data to make recommendations,” he noted.

This dilemma also applies to film production, since with artificial intelligence and digital design they can modify the actions of the actors on camera without the professionals themselves acting, he exemplified.

“There is some skepticism about the quality of these tools in the long term and there is ethical concern, as well as the potential loss of jobs that we could see there,” he acknowledged.

Likewise, he recalled the risk of feeding artificial intelligence with a single type of source, since it can transmit erroneous stereotypes.

“You need to be really careful with the information you use to train these models and you have to have an ethics committee that really looks in detail at the possible biases that may appear,” he summarized.

Despite his warnings, he considered that people “do not necessarily have to see AI as something negative”, but rather as “a brushstroke” in the creative process of human beings to enhance people’s professional careers and improve the quality of content. .

The Lisbon Web Summit, which has been held in the Portuguese capital since 2016, concludes this Thursday after four frenetic days that have brought together nearly 2,600 emerging companies, although fewer investors than other years, already nearly 70,000 people from 160 countries, according to figures from the organizers.
