In her new theatrical show, the Canarian actress, director and producer uses Christmas as a pretext to launch a message of female empowerment.
Antonia San Juan returns to Gran Canaria next week to present her new theatrical show, ‘Mamá Noelia’, a story to reflect, through humor and irony, on the habitual and persistent invisibility of women’s daily work. The play, which in addition to Antonia San Juan herself, will have Yeyo Bayeyo and Santi Almeida as protagonists, will premiere on Sunday, November 26, at 6:00 p.m., at the Cruce de Culturas Theater in Cruce de Arinaga. Tickets are now on sale on the portal tickentradas.com.
With a critical and feminist spirit, ‘Mamá Noelia’ ousts Santa Claus as the main protagonist of Christmas. Christmas is for her, as for most women and mothers, a time full of tasks: preparing food, doing household chores, decorating the house, shopping… But the workload increases when her husband, Dad Noel denies her obligations and is the one who assumes the delivery of gifts to the millions of boys and girls who live in the world. Despite her constant efforts, Mama Noelia has never been recognized for her work, a reflection of the patriarchal society that since time immemorial has deprived the figure of women of prominence.
Antonia San Juan rose to fame with her roles in film and television. She participated in the unforgettable ‘All About My Mother’, by Pedro Almodóvar, and in the successful television series ‘La que se cerca’, where she played the unforgettable Estela Reynolds. However, her true passion is found in the theater, where she has shone in numerous plays and monologues such as ‘Interview with my daughter Mari’, a show with which she managed to conquer the stages of the main cities throughout Spain.
The Canarian actress, stand-up comedian, screenwriter, director and producer is currently immersed in a new film project titled ‘The Queen of the Convent’, a comedy written and directed by Carmen Perona and starring Mario Vaquerizo, in which she shares a cast. with outstanding personalities from the Spanish acting world such as Isabel Ordaz or Gemma Cuervo.
