The leader of Yemen’s Houthis said his forces would carry out further attacks against Israel
The leader of Yemen’s Houthi rebels announced that his militia would carry out further attacks against Israel. He then added that they could also target Israeli ships in the Red Sea and the Bab Al-Mandeb Strait.
The Iran-allied group has carried out several missile and drone attacks on Israel this month. Since the outbreak of the Gaza crisis he has highlighted the risk of the war between Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas spreading to the wider Middle East.
“Our eyes are open to constantly monitor and search for any Israeli vessels in the Red Sea, particularly in Bab Al-Mandab, and near Yemeni regional waters.”
Abdulmalik Al-Houthi said this in a speech broadcast on TV by his group “al Masira”.
Washington has been on alert for activity from Iran-backed groups since Hamas fighters invaded Israel on October 7, killing 1,200 people.
Since then, Israel has stepped up its attack on Gaza, where its forces have killed more than 11,000 people, according to Palestinian officials.
The war in Yemen has reached a stalemate as fighting has largely stopped but both sides have failed to renew a United Nations-brokered truce that expired in October.
