The Story of Natalie McKenna-Mounty: From Severe Headaches to a Life-Threatening Brain Tumor

Jakarta

A woman complained of headaches for three days, which she thought were ‘just’ migraines. Unexpectedly, it turns out that his complaint arose due to a severe brain tumor that almost threatened his life. How did it happen?

The woman is Natalie McKenna-Mounty (47) in Ramsgate, England. He was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a fast-growing and aggressive brain tumor, three years ago. At that time, he thought he had had a stroke.

The initial symptoms of migraine headaches appeared when he was undergoing the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. Like it or not, he has to try to handle his own complaints. However, even though he had taken medicine, the headache didn’t go away for days.

“I had a severe headache for about three days, and then I felt like I was having a stroke. I couldn’t speak, and my mouth was drooping. I was taken to hospital, scanned, and diagnosed with glioblastoma. Because all this happened during lockdown, I alone when I heard the news,” he said, quoted from Mirror News UK, Thursday (16/11/2023).

Natalie underwent surgery at King’s College Hospital in London and had 70 percent of the tumor removed. Six weeks later, he started a six-week course of radiotherapy followed by six months of chemotherapy.

Over the next three years, his condition stabilized. However, in June this year, Natalie again experienced signs of tumor growth. Continuing in August, Natalie underwent surgery to remove the tumor. However, doctors were unable to remove all of the tumor due to its fatal location. Natalie is currently exploring various clinical trials to help with her treatment.
