Aged 14 and 15, the two children were ordered to pay 4,000 euros to two associations dedicated to the defense of animals.
Two teenagers, tried for having killed two kittens and broadcasting the scene on Snapchat, were found guilty by the Évreux children’s court on Wednesday November 15, Agence France-Presse (AFP) learned from the prosecutor’s office in the Normandy city .
“The two minors were found guilty (…) of serious abuse resulting in the death of animals for one, complicity in this offense for the other. The decision on the sentence is postponed to a second hearing which will take place in May 2024″, indicated the public prosecutor of Évreux, Rémi Coutin, to an AFP correspondent.
“While waiting for this second hearing, the two minors will be subject to a probative judicial educational measure”, a sort of judicial control for minors, specified the magistrate.
Inconus of justice
The Stéphane Lamart association, dedicated to the defense of animal rights, alerted the prosecutor’s office on May 11 after the broadcast on the social network Snapchat of a video in which two teenagers “filmed themselves killing kittens”.
Seized by the prosecution, the gendarmerie investigated and arrested the two teenagers, unknown to the courts, aged 14 and 15.
Me Patrice Grillon, lawyer for the Stéphane Lamart foundation and the National Society for the Defense of Animals (SNDA) said on Wednesday “very satisfied with this judgment”, particularly because “the facts have been reclassified as serious abuse leading to the death”.
“The two young people were ordered to pay 4,000 euros to each of the two associations that I represent,” added Me Grillon.
