Jordan Condemns Israel’s Bombing of Gaza Field Hospital and Demands Investigation

Jordan condemns Israel’s bombing of its field hospital in Gaza… and awaits the results of the investigation

The Jordanian army announced, in a statement on Wednesday evening, that seven members of the Jordanian field hospital staff in Gaza had been injured while trying to treat Palestinian citizens who had been injured during an Israeli bombing, according to what was published by Agence France-Presse.

The statement quoted an official spokesman for the Jordanian Armed Forces as saying, “Seven staff members from the Jordanian field hospital in Gaza were wounded at the entrance to the hospital’s emergency department, while trying to treat Palestinian citizens who were injured during an Israeli bombing and were transferred there.”

He explained that “the crew members’ injuries range from minor to stable,” noting that “their colleagues are providing the necessary care for them and a number of Palestinian brothers.”

The source added, “The armed forces have begun an official investigation to find out the details of what happened, and confirm Israel’s responsibility to provide the necessary protection for the hospital and its staff.”

The source did not explain how these people were injured, but stressed that “in implementation of the directives of His Majesty the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, the hospital will continue to perform its humanitarian duty towards our Palestinian brothers.”

For its part, the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned in the strongest terms the Israeli bombing that occurred around the field hospital in Gaza, which led to the injury of seven hospital staff while they were trying to treat Palestinian citizens.

The Ministry affirmed that Israel exposing the hospital and its staff to danger during its bombing of our Palestinian brothers is an unacceptable and condemnable crime and represents a clear violation of international law.

The Jordanian government stressed that “the Israeli occupation forces bear full responsibility for endangering the lives of Jordanian medical teams.”

In its statement, the Ministry revealed that the government is awaiting the results of the investigation initiated by the Armed Forces – the Arab Army to take the necessary legal and political steps against this heinous crime.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs renewed its condemnation of the war crimes committed by Israel in Gaza, and against all Palestinian hospitals, which is a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949, stressing the need for the international community to take a clear and frank stance condemning Israeli war crimes and stopping them.

The Ministry stressed the need for Israel, the occupying power, to comply with its obligations under international law, especially international humanitarian law, and in particular to refrain from attacking hospitals as they are protected places, and not to take any measures that prevent or hinder medical personnel from carrying out their duties.

In addition, Egypt condemned the Israeli army’s bombing of the vicinity of the Jordanian field hospital, and said that this “adds to the series of Israeli attacks that violate all rules of international law.”

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Israel’s bombing of the vicinity of the Jordanian field hospital in Gaza and targeting and storming other hospitals in the Strip is a “blatant violation of the provisions of international humanitarian law.”

The statement stressed “the need for Israel to comply with its obligations as the occupying power, including refraining from attacking hospitals in Gaza or obstructing medical personnel from performing their duties.”

The Royal Jordanian Air Force had twice dropped “urgent medical aid” over Gaza intended for the Jordanian field hospital, since the start of the war between Israel and the Hamas movement.

Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Al-Safadi confirmed, on Monday, in statements to the official “Al-Mamlaka” channel, that the Jordanian field hospital established in the northern Gaza Strip since 2009 “has treated more than four thousand cases since the start of the Israeli war on the Strip.”

He pointed out that 182 Jordanians from the armed forces are working in the field hospital.

Al-Safadi confirmed, “Our hospital is working and will continue to work. It is perhaps the only hospital remaining in northern Gaza that is still working and will continue to work.”

Jordanian Prime Minister Bisher Al-Khasawneh announced last Tuesday that his country would receive 41 Palestinian children suffering from cancer from the Gaza Strip, for treatment in one of the specialized centers in Amman.

Since the outbreak of war on October 7, Jordan has witnessed almost daily demonstrations in solidarity with the Palestinians. To demand the cancellation of the peace treaty signed between Jordan and Israel in 1994, and the closure of the Israeli embassy in Amman.

On November 2, the Kingdom recalled its ambassador to Israel, denouncing “the raging Israeli war on Gaza that is killing innocent people and causing an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe.” It also informed Israel that its ambassador, who had left the country earlier, would not be returned.

The continuing Israeli bombing of the Gaza Strip led to the death of 11,320 people, most of them civilians, including 4,650 children, according to the Hamas Ministry of Health.
