Second matchday of the group stage 2023 U-17 World Cup has been completed. Six countries have confirmed themselves for the round of 16. Anyone?

They are Spain, England, Senegal, France, United States and Germany. These six countries have collected six points from two wins in the first two matches, giving them an advantage in their respective group standings.

Spain is currently in first place in Group B, followed by Mali and Uzbekistan who have just won three points. If La Rojita loses to Uzbekistan in the last match, they will still qualify, at least as one of the best third ranked teams.

England experienced a similar situation in Group C. They sat at the top, ahead of Brazil and Iran, who both have three points. If they lose to Brazil in the last match, they can still qualify, at worst via the best third place route.

Senegal, who leads Group D with six points, also has the same conditions as Spain and England. Below the Teranga Lions are Argentina and Japan who have three points. Defeat in the last match against Japan will not affect qualification.

Moving on to Group E, France and the US have won six points. They will meet in the final match to determine the position of group winner. South Korea and Burkina Faso, who are below both, have yet to score points after suffering two defeats.

Finally, Germany is in first place in Group F, above Venezuela, which has only won four points and Mexico, which has only won one point. Another team, New Zealand, has not yet won any points because they have always lost in their first two matches.

The conditions above mean that Germany will at least finish as runners-up in Group F if they lose to Venezuela in the final group match. However, if they draw or win, they will qualify as group winners.

Thus, on the third or final matchday in the group stage, there are only 10 top 16 tickets up for grabs. Indonesia is one of the teams that still has a chance to qualify.
