Portrait of a Person with HIV Infection in St. Petersburg: Demographics and Social Adaptation

“Today the portrait of a person with HIV infection is the average resident of St. Petersburg. Among registered patients, 60% are men, 40% are women. More than 75% have a permanent job, 80% have secondary specialized or higher education. That is, for the most part, people living with HIV are fully socially adapted, and not antisocial individuals, as the majority believes, emphasizes Tatyana Vinogradova. “In addition, we note that in recent years the infection has been aging: the average age of a person with HIV in our city is from 35 to 45 years. This is the most productive, most active age, when people start families, give birth to children, care about career growth and are already, in principle, established in society.”
