Marie-Louise Eta Makes History as First Woman Bundesliga Coach

Marie-Louise Eta joined the coaching staff of Union Berlin, according to the football club’s website.

The 32-year-old German was appointed assistant to Marco Grote, who became the team’s interim head coach after the departure of Urs Fischer. Previously, Eta and Grote were part of the coaching staff of the Union youth team. Marie-Louise will become the first ever woman to coach a Bundesliga team in the match against Augsburg on November 25.

As a player, Eta played for Turbine, won the Champions League with the team and became the German champion several times. She also played for Hamburg, Cloppenburg and Werder Bremen, ending her football career in 2018 at the age of 26.

Union is in last place in the German championship standings with six points, and is also fourth in the Champions League group.
