Questions on Foreign Funding and Neutrality of National Police in 2024 Presidential Election

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Member of Commission III DPR-RI Aboe Bakar Alhabsy questioned the statement made by the National Police at the Commission III meeting which stated that there was illegal foreign funding of presidential and vice presidential candidates contesting in the 2024 Presidential Election.

Aboe said, in the presentation of the Head of National Police Commissioner General Fadil Imran, page 35, it was stated that there were foreign intelligence operations taking place.

“On page 35, sir, it is stated that there are forms of foreign intelligence operations in Indonesia. These include providing clandestine (illegal) financial assistance to certain coalitions of presidential and vice-presidential candidates,” said Aboe at the DPR-RI Commission III meeting, Jakarta, Wednesday (15 /11/2023).

Aboe urged Fadil to explain the findings in his presentation.

Are the findings a fact that can be revealed or just an analysis?

“Please explain this as an expression of the fact that there are foreign-funded presidential and vice-presidential candidates or whether all the analysis by the National Police is regarding foreign funding,” he added.

On the other hand, the Secretary General of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) also asked about the neutrality of the National Police in the upcoming 2024 presidential election.

Even though there was a telegram letter Number 2407 issued by the National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, Aboe asked for an explanation of how to implement it directly in the field.

“What are the steps to mastering the internal police regulations? Is there a special strategy taken by the police to guarantee the neutrality of its members? Well, this is important, sir,” he said.

Finally, Aboe asked Fadil whether there was pressure from the authorities regarding holding the elections.

“Yesterday, the former TNI commander said that in 2019, when he was Army Chief of Staff, he also experienced certain pressure. If I may know, did you experience the same thing too?” he said.

Until this news was written, the meeting was being suspended and Fadil Imran had not answered Aboe’s questions.
