The major search for a child carried out in Dresden on Monday has finally been stopped. As the Dresden Police Department announced on Monday evening, the alleged crime described by a witness did not occur. “During the course of the investigation, doubts emerged about the whistleblower’s statements,” it said in a statement. The 35-year-old finally admitted that the incident did not happen. The initiation of an investigation against the woman is being examined.
180 police officers are working on the case
The woman claimed to have observed a girl with a school bag being harassed by an unknown person near Gamigstrasse on Monday morning. According to her description, the man initially held the child. The girl was briefly able to tear herself away and ran away. The man is said to have followed the child. She reported her observations to the police via an emergency call around 9 a.m.
The police then launched a major manhunt in the Prohlis district. 90 officers combed forests and green spaces, and 90 other police officers worked on the case. A police spokesman told MDR SACHSEN at midday that the witness’s observations were taken very seriously.
Tracking dogs and police helicopters in action
The officers queried the schools in the area and police tracking dogs were on duty. A police helicopter was also deployed at times. But by the afternoon there was no information about a missing child or a possible suspect.
