DEPOK City DKR People’s Health Council Urges Awareness of Aedes Aegypti Mosquito Spread on National Health Day 2023

DEPOK – Through the momentum of National Health Day 2023, the Depok City DKR People’s Health Council invites the public to be aware of the spread of the Aedes Aegypti mosquito which contains Wolbachia. This is the release distributed by Roy Pangharapan, Chairman of the Depok City DKR, to the press in Depok Monday (13/11/2023).

The commemoration of National Health Day 2023 will coincide on Sunday 12 November 2023, and will be commemorated by the Depok City DKR by holding a fun walk and other entertainment activities.

“To coincide with National Health Day, the Depok City DKR People’s Health Council held a Leisure Walk with the people of Depok City,” said Roy Pangharapan.

DKR used this opportunity to conduct outreach to the wider community about the importance of maintaining health by implementing Clean and Healthy Living Behavior or PHBS.

“We are helping the government’s work by reminding the public to adopt a Clean and Healthy Lifestyle or PHBS,” said Roy Pangharapan, who is also a candidate for member of the Depok City DPRD.

According to the legislative candidate from the Beji electoral district, Cinere Limo from the Nasdem Party, this momentum was also used to be aware of the spread of the Aedes Aegypti mosquito from the Indonesian Ministry of Health.

“I just need to remind the government to review the policy for spreading the bionic Wolbachia mosquito,” added Roy Pangharapan.

In his remarks as Chairman of the Depok City DKR, Roy Pangharapan firmly rejected the spread of the Aedes aegypti mosquito in Depok city which would have an impact on the environment and public health.

“We demand that the Depok City Government dare to protect its citizens by rejecting the Ministry of Health’s program,” stressed Roy Pangharapan.

He reminded the Ministry of Health to be more alert to various international research programs on society. Because it does not necessarily provide benefits to society but is actually dangerous for people’s health and safety.

“Don’t use the public as guinea pigs any more. “But as the government, the Ministry of Health should be the one most responsible for the safety of the community, nation and country,” he said.

For this reason, he asked the authorities to be responsible for investigating the origins and consequences of the spread of mosquitoes.

Apart from the leisurely walk, this activity also included the distribution of Door Prizes. “Alhamdulillah, the main prize was a washing machine from Mr. H. Idris Sandiya, DPR RI candidate from West Java electoral district 6,” concluded Roy Pangharapan.

Hundreds of people were seen enthusiastically taking part in the leisurely walk, and distribution of Door Prizes as well as simple musical entertainment provided by members of the Depok City DKR.

Previously, the Healthy Movement for the Indonesian People (Gesuri) expressed deep concern regarding the Government’s program in the form of spreading millions of Aedes Aegypti mosquito eggs exposed to Wolbachia bacteria.

Kun Wardana Abyoto, MT. explained that the program to release hundreds of millions of Wolbachia mosquitoes in Indonesia carries serious risks, including risks to public health and the environment, because there has not been a comprehensive long-term study in Bali, West Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Kupang and Bontang so that
potential risks to public health and the environment, including Occupational Safety and Health (K3).

He said the release of millions of mosquitoes had the potential to damage the tourism industry, as well as the local economy. “Who is responsible if something goes wrong and has untold consequences?” he said.

This movement demands in-depth Due Diligence and thorough evaluation before releasing mosquitoes. “IP Technology risk investigation via Wolbachia. The public must know and express approval. “We ask for immediate action to protect Bali, West Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Kupang and Bontang,” he stressed. (sn-15)
