A British woman was identified more than 30 years after her murder in Belgium, the BBC reported. Rita Roberts’ family noticed hers distinctive tattoo in a report broadcast on public television.
The family’s last contact with Rita, then 31, was a postcard she sent them in May 1992. Her body was found the following month, but she remained unidentified.
Rita Roberts left her home in Cardiff for the Belgian city of Antwerp in February 1992. Her body was found on a grate in a river four months later after was violently killedreports Interpol.

The woman is one of The 22 Unidentified Dead Womenwhose death police in Europe are trying to uncover through a campaign that began earlier this year.
“A member of Rita’s family watched a report on the Identify Me campaign on the BBC and suddenly realized it was possible one of those women should be her“, announced the police.
After recognizing the missing woman’s tattoo, her family met with investigators in Belgium and formally identified her identify. However, at this stage, it is still unclear how exactly Rita Roberts died and who may be behind her violent death.
