Authorities from across the country agreed to incorporate the vaccine for pregnant people against Respiratory Syncytial Virus into the Mandatory National Schedule. They also valued the role of the State and the importance of public health and highlighted their joint work during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Minister of Health Carolina Centeno participated in CABA in the last new meeting of the Federal Health Council (COFESA) 2019-2023 management chaired by her national counterpart Carla Vizzotti. Authorities from all over the country valued the role of the state and made a strong defense of public health, fighting for the continuity of the health strategies that have been developed throughout the country.
“We reviewed the most important aspects of the period in which the pandemic has had a great impact and we confirmed that for us health is a right and is not a good that is marketed or transacted,” he said.
Centeno thus highlighted the importance of state policies, both at the national and provincial levels, that made it possible to confront the COVID-19 pandemic. “The pandemic was an example that without the State it would not have been possible to vaccinate or contain the people who were hospitalized and who needed a respirator or an intensive care bed to go through what was the worst health crisis in the last 100 years.” years,” stressed the official.
In this sense, he added that it was also an example of what it means to work together in diversity. “Clearly the ministers represent the provinces, which sometimes have a different political color, but nevertheless at the time we agreed to make decisions that prioritized the life and health of the Argentines, with the State present carrying forward a leadership role from the national and provincial levels,” he said.
Mandatory National Calendar
On the occasion, the national epidemiological situation was evaluated and a review of vaccination coverage was made (which improved at the country level to pre-pandemic figures) and the incorporations to the Mandatory National Calendar. In addition, the national health portfolio communicated and debated the guidelines on the new Dengue vaccine, which, for the moment, will not be included in the Mandatory National Calendar.
“Like any vaccine authorized by the ANMAT, it seems important to us as a scientific and technological advance that reaches the country, the recommendations of the country’s health authorities mark a waiting period for its incorporation into the Calendar given that there are still scientific discussions that must be carried out. go ahead,” he clarified.
Vaccine against Respiratory Syncytial Virus
The one that will be incorporated into the Mandatory National Calendar, as reported by COFESA, is a vaccine for pregnant people against Respiratory Syncytial Virus. For this reason, batches of vaccines for pregnant women from 32 to 36 weeks will enter in the coming months to generate antibodies in neonates, newborns and children under six months, whose mortality is the highest with respect to this virus that produced a bronchiolitis outbreak a few months ago.
“Efforts will also begin to purchase a monoclonal antibody to be placed in premature babies to contribute to the reduction of the infant mortality rate due to this cause. These policies will be guaranteed 100% by the State,” he said.
Health policies and strategies
The minister highlighted the work of the national health portfolio during the period 2019-2023, through the state policies and health strategies implemented by each of its Secretariats and that had a direct impact on Chaco.
In this sense, the Reconstruct Health Program stood out through which 16 ambulances and a tomograph arrived that are already installed and in the process of conditioning at the Perrando hospital. Also a resonator and an angiograph for the Pediatric hospital, among other diagnostic imaging equipment.
He also recalled that the distribution of equipment from the National Respiratory Health Plan is already underway and stressed the importance of national policies and Mental Health strategies, the 1000 Day Plan, and the historic vaccination campaign against COVID 19, carried out with an equal distribution and supportive logistics by the State.
