WHERE ARE WE IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF MUNICIPAL POLICE?
Jean-Christophe Faës : “We were committed to respecting the opinion of the Rezéennes and Rezéens. As soon as the results of the consultation were known, we set out to create a new municipal police service. His doctrine was presented to the city council in March. It was on this basis that we were then able to launch the recruitment of the department manager. He took office at the beginning of September. He is already hard at work defining the police officers’ missions in detail and setting up a team of five people: two public highway surveillance officers who applied were selected (they will be trained for six months), the recruitment of three other police officers will be launched at the end of the year. A first crew should therefore be on the ground in spring 2024. And the entire team before the end of 2024.”
WHAT WILL BE THE MISSION OF THE MUNICIPAL POLICE?
Jean-Christophe Faës : “It will above all be a local municipal police force. The agents will be in permanent contact and attentive to residents. Their significant presence on the ground – extended amplitude during the week and occasionally on weekends – will allow them to be visible to citizens and to be on alert in the territory. The Rezéan police officers will not be equipped with lethal weapons but only with self-defense weapons. They will not replace the national police, but will intervene in a complementary manner. This is what we detail in the coordination agreement which must be signed with the State by the end of the year. With this different doctrine in Rezé, we hope to attract potential candidates. Because we are facing another difficulty on a national scale: that of recruiting municipal police officers. »
WHAT PLACE WILL THIS NEW SERVICE HAVE IN THE CURRENT OPERATION?
Jean-Christophe Faës : “This new service is attached to the City’s public peace department. The municipal police will thus act in close collaboration with the mediators, the public highway surveillance agents and the entire management whose staff will also be reinforced (two additional agents), with the aim of providing graduated responses ranging from from prevention and mediation to punishment. The creation of a municipal police force is only one action of our public tranquility policy to improve security and well-being together in our city. At the beginning of 2025, we will also open a House of Prevention and Tranquility to respond to the concerns of Rezéennes by informing and supporting them. »
