Dolph Lundgren: From Stereotypical Roles to Hollywood Stardom

He looks funny.

When starting his film career, Dolph Lundgren often received the same offers from directors. One image stuck with the artist, despite the fact that it did not correspond to him at all.

Filmmakers believed that a tall blond with a strong chin and a bunch of pumped up muscles was ideal for the role of a stern Russian. This perception of the male half of the USSR population is, of course, flattering, but the handsome guy is a typical Scandinavian. However, such a discrepancy did not bother anyone – neither the directors nor the Hollywood actor. For the sake of working on the set, he was ready to do a lot.

For example, in the film “Red Scorpion” Lundgren’s hero starts a showdown in a bar. During the fight, he sings the anthem of the Soviet Union. The celebrity can be given a standing ovation: albeit with a terrible accent, he was able to perform by heart a rather complex text in a foreign language. By the way, the screen star is still actively filming. True, he has long moved away from the images of immigrants from the Soviet Union.
