Chronology of BCA Customers Losing IDR 68.5 million

BCA customer, Evita, recently lost a balance of IDR 68.5 million from her account through a QRIS transaction. He shared this unpleasant incident that happened to him on the YouTube channel Mr. Bert.

This incident occurred on September 26, when Evita wanted to make a transaction but failed because the balance in her account was low. When he checked the balance info, he had IDR 10 million remaining.

When Evita checked her account transfer, there was a transaction via QR of IDR 4 million in the morning, which she didn’t know about. He immediately contacted Halo BCA to block it because of suspected burglary orhack.

Then, the results of the examination showed that mysterious transactions via QR occurred from 23 to 26 September 2023. The value was IDR 1 million and was carried out repeatedly.

Evita explained that when the first mysterious transaction was carried out, she was climbing Mount Ungaran in Central Java. So it was impossible for him to carry out the transaction because his cellphone did not get a signal in the mountain area. Evita was also able to prove this via GPS which recorded her tracks without an internet network.

He also continued to hold his cellphone during the trip.

Strangely enough, this cellphone does not have any other applications apart from m-Banking BCA, because it is specifically for bank transactions.

“On this cellphone, I never received it [kode] OTP. Or any e-mail notification, nothing,” said Evita on Mr. Bert’s YouTube channel, quoted Tuesday (14/11/2023).

When asked what BCA’s response was regarding this matter, Evita said she was told to find out who was using her cellphone for transactions.

“Yes, I was the one who was told to look for it, meaning I was the one who was told to look for it, ‘This is from Mom’s device, so Mom, look for it, maybe it’s used by her child, maybe it’s used by her husband, or someone knows,'” he said.

Evita also admitted that BCA asked for CCTV footage that showed that her cellphone was still in her hand.

It didn’t stop there, the irregularities occurred after he activated BCA m-Banking with a new ATM card on his cellphone on October 19 2023. This time, the account balance was small, only IDR 172,000.

He then made a transaction on Shopee amounting to IDR 120,000 with payment via Virtual Account.

“There, to my surprise, I got the incoming balance in the form of a QR. So it was like I created a barcode, I gave it to someone so that person could scan it,” he explained.

Evita admitted that she received an incoming balance of IDR 2 million via QR even though she had never created a QR for her account. On October 26, BCA is said to have contacted him and explained that the transaction was a refund of a previous transaction.

Mr Bert also questioned why if it was a refund, the amount was not equivalent to all of Evita’s losses.

Evita also admitted that she had difficulty handling this case. He finally contacted Mr. Bert once felt stuck in recovering his losses. Mr Bert himself admitted that he had asked Evita to settle with BCA first before agreeing to highlight this incident on his YouTube channel.
