Ministry of Environment and Korea Institute of Environmental Industry and Technology hold ‘Sustainable Supply Chain Management Discussion’
Discussion of latest trends and export industry response measures, such as the European Union supply chain due diligence law
[에너지신문] “It will be important for the Ministry of Environment to respond quickly to the domestic export industry prior to conducting due diligence on the supply chain. In addition, we will prepare preemptive support measures so that companies do not have difficulty responding to environmental, social, and transparent management (ESG) supply chain due diligence.”
Lee Chang-heum, head of the Climate and Carbon Policy Office at the Ministry of Environment, said this at the ‘Sustainable Supply Chain Management Discussion’ held on the 14th.
The Ministry of Environment and the Korea Environmental Industry and Technology Institute held a ‘Sustainable Supply Chain Management Discussion (Conference)’ at the Korea Science and Technology Center with about 200 people, including working-level export industry workers, in attendance.
This event expanded the Ministry of Environment’s presentation of best practices for environmental, social and transparent management (ESG) diagnosis (consulting) and shared the latest trends in environmental, social and transparent management (ESG) in the international community, including the European Union (EU) supply chain due diligence law. It was designed to do this. In addition, best practices in supply chain management of domestic and foreign companies will be introduced and the direction of the industry’s response will be discussed.
The event began with a welcoming speech by Lee Chang-heum, head of the Climate and Carbon Policy Office of the Ministry of Environment, and an opening speech by Choi Heung-jin, director of the Korea Environmental Industry and Technology Institute, followed by Jorg Weberndorfer, construction counselor at the European Union in Korea, and Norbert Baum of the German chemical company HELM. There was a keynote speech by Vice President Norbert Baum.
In Part 1, Sangmin Kim, an attorney at Lee & Ko Law Firm, presented on the topic of ‘Trends and response directions in supply chain due diligence guidelines’, and Nam Gung-kyung, group leader of BASF, a German petrochemical company, presented on the topic of ‘How to prepare a company’s practical supply chain due diligence.’
In Part 2, actual companies’ ‘supply chain due diligence response cases’ were shared and future response plans were discussed. In particular, at this event, excellent response cases of domestic supply chain partner companies discovered through the Ministry of Environment’s eco-friendly management diagnosis (consulting) were introduced, and presentations and comprehensive discussions continued on current issues and response cases by major export industries (steel and textiles).
The Ministry of Environment and the Korea Environmental Industry and Technology Institute will review in depth the export industry’s supply chain due diligence response measures discussed at this event and actively reflect them in future policies promoted by the Ministry of Environment to ensure that our export companies are competitive within the international supply chain. plan.
