Approximate reading time: 1 minute, 3 seconds

25 CONDEPP leaders participated in the meeting where they presented their position regarding the Fisheries Law.

Chinquihue Foundation, together with the Regional Government of Biobío, called on different organizations to participate in this meeting to propose this model of economic development born in the field of agriculture to extrapolate it to artisanal fishing so that it is the basis for a new development model. of the productive development policy in fishing. “Extensionism” is named like this, because it seeks to “extend” knowledge through training and promotion of new technologies.

The Regional Governor of Biobío, Rodrigo Díaz, attended the meeting; the economic minister, Javier Sepúlveda; the zonal fishing director Lilian Troncoso; Leonardo Llanos, director of INDESPA; Iván Oyarzún Mundaca, director of Sernapesca Biobío, among other authorities.

Hernán Cortés, president of the Council for the Defense of Fishing Heritage (CONDEPP), stated that “these approaches between academia and the world of artisanal fishing are tremendously necessary.”

He also stated that “as long as there is a corrupt fishing law as a regulatory framework, artisanal fishing will be at a complete disadvantage compared to the Fishing Industry.” The leader was clear in pointing out that “the injustices of the Longueira Law must disappear. For there to be a true development of artisanal fishing there must be a fair division, 100% artisanal Sardina and a social platform”

Sara Garrido, President of the National Corporation of Women in Artisanal Fishing of Chile, also attended the seminar. She stated that “What we are looking for with this is for these institutions to be facilitators for Artisanal Fishing. We want professionals who are available and are public servants at the disposal of artisanal fishermen’s organizations and in the same way, fishermen can become part of this extension model, they can be trained, qualified and even certify knowledge to be able to diversify and, why not , become fisheries extension agents.
