City of Montluçon mourns the loss of black swan and plans replacement

Once again, the City of Montluçon (Allier) will have to find a replacement among its much-loved black swans. Once again, one of the two birds of the couple installed at Saint-Jean Park has just died, confirm the services contacted this Monday, November 13.

The trail of an animal attack seems favored, due to the exposed torn neck. “From a wild beast or a stray dog, we don’t know,” says the town hall. “But this is not a deliberate move.”

“Saddened”

“We saw him this Sunday morning,” reports a daily walker, supporting a photo of the carcass. Given the pile of feathers, he must have defended himself.” And to share his pain: “The local residents I met are saddened by this news. The couple welcomed us in the morning with their giggles. This morning, there was a great, sad calm.”

The municipality is talking about replacing the webfoot, whose sex remains to be clarified for the moment, although this could take time. “Last time, we struggled to find this breed,” recall the services.

This is not the first disappearance of its kind: two years ago, a man was apprehended after an attempted theft of one of these large birds. While the two previous females of the couple, who had become emblematic of the site since their arrival in 2015, ended up dying early.
