Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf), Sandiaga Uno, emphasized that the Coldplay ‘Music of the Spheres World Tour’ Jakarta concert would still be held despite the threat of the stage being burned by the masses.
One day before Chris Martin et al’s first concert in Indonesia, Sandiaga said that his party would coordinate with the police to anticipate disruptions to the concert that music lovers in Indonesia have been waiting for the most.
“Yes, we are coordinating with law enforcement officials. We will coordinate with the police so that this concert runs comfortably, safely and enjoyable,” said Sandi at the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy Office, Jakarta, Monday (13/11/2023).

Sandi admitted that he respected all opinions regarding Coldplay’s arrival to Indonesia, including rejection. However, he emphasized that the Coldplay ‘Music of the Spheres World Tour’ Jakarta concert could not be cancelled.
“All wishes to express opinions have been facilitated and of course we respect them, but everyone has been waiting for this concert and is within our legal corridor, so we invite all parties to make the Coldplay concert a success,” explained Sandi.

Furthermore, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy asked promoters to prepare the concert carefully so that no problems occur during and after the concert is held. Because Coldplay’s concert has an impact on the Indonesian economy
“Preparations and the concert must go smoothly because several concerts in the last few days have experienced problems,” stressed Sandi.
“We have to ensure this, don’t let Coldplay’s eyes turn to Indonesia [mengalami masalah]. “We have to ensure that this concert will run smoothly and of course have an impact on Indonesia and the Indonesian economy,” he continued.
The economic impact of the Coldplay concert in Jakarta
Through this concert which will be held at the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Main Stadium, Sandi is targeting profits of around US$75 million or around Rp. 1.17 trillion (assuming an exchange rate of Rp. 15,676/US$) from a total of 60 thousand to 80 thousand spectators.
“Just like our initial prediction, US$1,000 to US$1,500 (or around Rp. 15.6 million to Rp. 23.5 million) per pax,” said Sandi.
“So, if we see that there is a total of 80 or 60 thousand that we are targeting as an audience then we might be able to see a number [pendapatan] between US$70 to US$75 million,” said Sandi.
Previously, Coldplay’s ‘Music of the Spheres World Tour’ Jakarta concert was rejected by the National Anti-LGBT Movement (Geranati LGBT) crowd on Friday (10/11/2023). In their speech, the crowd rejected Coldplay’s concert on Wednesday (15/11/2023) because the British band was considered to be campaigning for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT). As a result, the crowd threatened to burn down the stage if the concert continued.
“Don’t let the event continue, the Muslims are angry, the people are angry, everyone brings petrol and we will set it on fire later on the Coldplay stage,” said one of the orators at the British Embassy, quoted from detiknews, Tuesday (14/11/2023).
“We are not against concerts. This is not a random concert. This is because there is LGBT propaganda in it,” continued the orator.
