A rare stamp has been sold in the United States for 2 million dollars (more than 1.8 million euros). This makes it the most expensive stamp ever sold in the US.
The stamp bears the name Inverted Jenny. It shows an airplane upside down. The stamp dates from 1918. At the time, only a hundred of them were made. Stamp collector Charles Hack (76) bought the copy.
At The Washington Post he says that he has known the stamp since his childhood. Applies to him Inverted Jenny as the holy grail of stamps.
The stamp was part of a series of stamps released to mark the beginning of airmail service in the United States. The plane accidentally turns upside down. At the time, anyone who wanted to buy a stamp paid only 24 dollar cents for it.
