Price Comparison: Japanese vs. Chinese Cars in Indonesia

Jakarta

The prices of Japanese and Chinese cars have often been compared recently. How much is the difference between the prices of Chinese and Japanese cars?

When you hear Chinese cars, maybe one thing that will come to your mind is the price. When compared in terms of price with Japanese cars that already existed, Chinese cars tend to be affordable. In the same segment, the price of Chinese cars can be cheaper than Japanese cars.

On the other hand, one of the Chinese car manufacturers, Chery, said that it could sell at low prices because the vehicle ecosystem had already been formed.

“So the price of our product is the actual figure. Where would anyone selling want to make a loss? But if I were asked, (I answered) it was just other producers who (take) too much profit,” said Vice President of PT Chery Sales Indonesia Harry Kamora.

Responding to this, PT Toyota Astra Motor Marketing Director Anton Jimmi Suwandy emphasized that each brand has its own strategy, including price placement.

“This is a competition, everybody can say anything, but back again it’s proof and we feel that we adjust the prices we apply to product quality and needs, otherwise it wouldn’t be possible for Toyota to be number 1 with a market share above 30%,” said the Director.
