Colombo: The Sri Lankan team had a disappointing performance in this year’s Cricket World Cup. Lankan Sports Minister Roshan Ranasimhe has dismissed the Sri Lankan Cricket Board due to poor performance in the World Cup. With this, the ICC suspended the Lankan Board following the government’s interference in the board’s internal affairs.
Now former Lankan team captain Arjuna Ranatunga has come forward with allegations that BCCI secretary Jai Shah is behind the downfall of Lankan cricket. He also alleged that Jai Shah is controlling Lankan cricket. Ranatunga’s response was to a Sri Lankan media. After the dissolution of the board, Ranatunga was appointed as the chairman of the interim governing body.
“Due to the relationship between the Sri Lankan Cricket Board officials and Jai Shah, they (BCCI) are under the impression that they can trample and control the Sri Lankan board. Sri Lankan cricket is run by Jai Shah. The board is collapsing due to Jai Shah’s pressure. A man in India is ruining Sri Lankan cricket. He became strong only because of his father, the home minister of India,” Ranatunga said.
