Former GTSTactor Geert Hoes has contracted a rare bacteria and has lost almost 35 kilos. The forty-year-old actor and presenter shares his story on social media. “I haven’t felt very fit for a long time. I didn’t know that there was an ‘assassin’ working in my body.”

At one point Hoes had “some complaints” and was “not quite himself”. The actor also lost weight, but thought it was due to his healthier lifestyle. Then the former GTSTactor had himself examined, the hospital initially thought it was colon or pancreatic cancer.

“The time that followed this conversation with the doctor was hell. Lost almost 35 kilos, in and out of hospital, no longer being able to walk, difficulty speaking, losing weight and intense pain,” Hoes writes.

After further investigation, it turned out that something else was causing the complaints. “After many examinations, scans and biopsies, it turned out that I had contracted a very rare bacterium. According to the doctors, the chance of winning the jackpot at the State Lottery is even greater.”

In addition to the bacteria, a parasite has also been found in the body of the actor and presenter. “A parasite that literally eats you from the inside. From the beginning I also told the doctors that it felt like I was being eaten from the inside.”

Hoes says that he is back in the hospital and that the treatment process will take some time. “Physically I sometimes feel like an old grandfather and sometimes a little better. But I also feel that I can and will overcome this! No matter how difficult the journey will be, we will face this and I have enough to fight for.”
