Manchester –
A father managed to save his family’s holiday trip. The father suddenly became pilotafter the pilot on duty did not arrive.
Reporting from Daily Star, Monday (11/13/2023) this heroic action occurred on the easyJet airline which was flying from Manchester Airport to Spain in 2019. The father was determined to offer to fly the plane, because he was tired of waiting for flights that kept getting delayed.
He didn’t want his family vacation to be cancelled. He, who flew with his wife and children, had already imagined a fun holiday in his dream destination.
However, their holiday plans were almost ruined because their plane was almost canceled because there was only one pilot flying. Even though at that time the plane seats were full of passengers.
The father, Michael Bradley, turned out to be a licensed pilot who was on leave at the time. And at that time he also brought his license card and identification as a pilot.
Then he tried calling the airline and asking for permission to fly the plane that was supposed to take him and his family on holiday. Soon he got a call if he was allowed to fly the plane.
“I called easyJet and said, ‘Hey, I’m standing in the terminal with nothing to do. I’ve got my driver’s license, I’ve got my ID card and I’m dying to go on holiday, and if you need any help, I’m standing here and ready to go.’
“They said ‘We’ll call you back’. Thirty-eight seconds later they called me back and said ‘can you fly the plane to Alicante’?” the story.
Finally, Michael flew the plane without wearing a uniform pilot.
“If you don’t mind if one of your pilots looks like this today, we’ll go to Alicante,” he said, laughing over the intercom.
Unsurprisingly, the announcement was greeted with loud applause from the passengers.
An easyJet spokesperson said at the time that the flight delays were due to the impact of a French ATC failure on Sunday which had an impact on flight crew meaning they had to rely on standby aircraft.
“We thank one pilot we were traveling on holiday from Manchester to Alicante on 2 September with his family and volunteered to operate the flight. This means customers can get to their destination and shows the commitment and dedication of our crew. This was in full compliance with the regulations as he was carrying his driver’s license and ID. “Safety is always our top priority,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesman said the incident was ‘extraordinary’ and stressed that Michael had been well rested, having previously had four days off. And legally allowed to fly the plane.
