Washington DC –
At least six to seven pro-Iran died as a result of two air attacks launched United States of America (US) on the position of Iranian-backed militia groups in Syria. Washington’s airstrikes were claimed to have hit training facilities and safe houses in eastern Syria.
As reported Al JazeeraMonday (13/11/2023), this figure was mentioned by the correspondent Fox News, Jennifer Griffin, who cited a Pentagon or US Department of Defense source in her report. US authorities have not officially announced any casualties in the air strikes in Syria.
The Pentagon source also said that a safe house belonging to an Iran-aligned group in Syria was hit by an explosion triggered by one of two US air strikes.
“Secondary explosions lasting two hours were seen at a second location believed to be a large cache of weapons and ammunition,” said the Pentagon source.
That figure has not been officially confirmed by the US government. A US official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the attack occurred several hours ago and a review was underway to determine whether the attack resulted in any deaths or injuries.
Previously, the Pentagon reportedly targeted Syria and pro-Iran groups on Sunday (12/11) local time, as the latest response to a series of attacks on US military forces stationed in Syria and Iraq.
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, as reported by Reuters, said the attacks targeted a training facility near the town of Albu Kamal and a safe house near the town of Mayadeen. Austin said President Joe Biden directly ordered the attacks.
Reports from a number of local sources in Syria said that one of the US airstrikes hit a camp run by pro-Iranian militias in an area west of Albu Kamal, Deir al-Zor Province, while another attack hit an area near a bridge in Mayadeen, which is located nearby.
