Making a written statement, Lefke Environment and Promotion Association President Münevver Ebedi noted that the building will serve with a public library, exhibition and seminar room and meeting rooms.
Stating that the construction of the building was completed in 1911 and that it was purchased from a Greek Cypriot by Mehmet Reşat Mulla Hasan Uzunoğlu in 1930, Ebedi stated that the building was restored by Okan Dağlı and his family in 2011.
The opening was made by Lefke District Governor Sadi Güneş, Lefke Mayor Aziz Kaya, Lefke Mukhtar Turgay Özersoy, Telsim General Manager Sefer Tüz, Okan Dağlı and Unsal Uzunoğlu.
Speaking at the opening, Association President Münevver Ebedi gave information about the activities of the association and stated that they aim to build a bridge between the past and the future while transferring the culture to future generations with the historical building called Lefke House.
Expressing that they will continue to work to raise generations that have high environmental awareness and will protect their culture, Ebedi said, “This will not only be an association building for us, but also a house that we can all use in common.”
Okan Dağlı, who made a short speech on behalf of the family, said that his grandmother’s house had been closed for many years and that they were happy to give the family heirloom buildings to non-governmental organizations struggling to protect culture, environment, identity and social existence.
