SEDESA has a multidisciplinary team to care for this disease (endocrinologists, ophthalmologist, podiatrist, dentist, psychologistorthopedics, hyperbaric chamber, wound management and diabetes educators) at the Iztapalapa and Miguel Hidalgo Specialized Clinics
Currently, people with diabetes can lead a full life without complications if they control blood glucose levels, improve their diet and exercise daily.
Within the framework of International Diabetes Day, which is commemorated on November 14, the Ministry of Health of Mexico City (SEDESA), through the Public Health Services, informs that the Clinics Specialized in the Comprehensive Management of Diabetes located in the Iztapalapa and Miguel Hidalgo municipalities have provided 15,870 free services to people diagnosed with diabetes, from January to October of this year.
This year, the Clinic in Miguel Hidalgo carried out 9,091 services, while the Clinic in Iztapalapa provided 6,779 services to patients with diabetes mellitus.
The director of the Clinic in Iztapalapa, Dr. Rubén Osvaldo Silva Tinoco, highlighted that this unit provides comprehensive treatment to patients diagnosed with said disease, focused on education about their own self-care.
“Currently, people with diabetes can lead a full life without complications, controlling their blood glucose levels, as well as improving their healthy diet and exercising daily,” the specialist emphasized.
He explained that diabetes is a chronic disease that occurs when the level of glucose in the blood is too high and affects the kidneys, pancreas and heart, among other organs. Among the symptoms of diabetes are: increased thirst and urination, very hungry, feeling tired, blurred vision, numbness and tingling in the feet or hands, unexplained weight loss and wounds that do not heal, among others.
In both clinics, people with this diagnosis are monitored for four or five months by a multidisciplinary team (endocrinologist, ophthalmologist, podiatrist, dentist, psychologist, orthopedics, hyperbaric chamber, wound management and diabetes educators), and are subsequently referred to their health center to continue with the treatment.
The specialist indicated that the nutritionist at the unit in Iztapalapa provides advice and recommendations to patients to control overweight and obesity; In addition, they receive information about insulin management and some measures to prevent various complications with the disease.
“Here people with diabetes receive free consultation, rehabilitation, treatment and medication. All patients leave very capable of facing diabetes without any complications,” said Dr. Silva Tinoco.
Likewise, he mentioned that the Clinic in Iztapalapa carries out preventive actions, whose main objective is for patients to reduce their body weight and, where appropriate, abandon the prediabetes status with specialized medical advice.

For its part, the Clinic in Miguel Hidalgo is located in Plan de San Luis, between Manuel Cario and Salvador Díaz Mirón, Santo Tomás neighborhood, Miguel Hidalgo Mayor’s Office. It provides care from Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and in the evening from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., while on Saturdays and Sundays it is served from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
