Fighter jets Israel raided Hezbollah hideouts in southern Lebanon. The attack was a retaliation attack after an anti-tank missile injured Israeli civilians near the border.
Reported by AFP, Sunday (12/11/2023), the Israeli army said “a number of civilians were injured” in an anti-tank missile attack near the village of Dovev, just half a mile (800 meters) from the border with Lebanon.
In response, “fighter jets struck a number of Hezbollah terror targets” including “military infrastructure that Hezbollah uses to direct its terrorist activities,” the military said.
The Israel Electric Corporation said missiles from Lebanon had “hit employees” who were at Dovev repairing power lines downed by an earlier attack.
The Iran-backed Hezbollah militant group claimed responsibility and said they had opened fire on an Israeli team installing “listening and spying devices” near the border.
It is known that since the Hamas attack on October 7 which sparked Israel’s war in Gaza, Israel has exchanged fire almost every day with militant groups in southern Lebanon.
Apart from Hezbollah, Hamas’s Lebanese branch has also launched attacks on southern Israel in recent weeks.
The Israeli army also said it had struck “a terrorist cell stationed in a civilian area in Lebanon that intended to open fire on Israeli territory”.
A drone also struck another group in Lebanon that the army said was trying to launch anti-tank missiles towards Israel.
Israel has evacuated tens of thousands of residents from communities in the north since the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas, which officials say killed about 1,200 people, mostly civilians.
In response to the worst attack in Israel’s history, Israel launched an offensive in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip, killing more than 11,000 people there, most of them civilians, according to the Hamas-run health ministry.
