A child without vitamin D supplements, throughout the year, will have vitamin D deficiency in the blood. From six to seven years, 1,000 units of vitamin D per day. In overweight children, 2,000 units daily.
Andreea Groza: It’s early evening, so it’s the perfect time to take vitamin D supplements. At least that’s what the recommendations sounded like. Currently, in childhood, continuous administration is indicated, doctors tell us.
Continuous administration means vitamin D from supplements, every day, regardless of the season. This is because most children do not have vitamin D in the normal concentration in their blood, where it matters.
Dr. Bogdan Pascu, primary endocrinologist: “They are very sedentary, that is, they do not expose themselves to solar radiation. Two months after starting vitamin D re-administration, he is able to reach normal vitamin D. It’s the loading dose, then half the maintenance dose compared to the initial loading dose.”
Overweight and obese children have a larger body surface area. They invariably have vitamin D deficiency in their blood. The immune system is hit from two directions.

Dr. Bogdan Pascu, primary endocrinologist: “We have two arrows that target the immune system. One, obesity, which promotes inflammation, and two, vitamin D deficiency. That is precisely why, in all overweight and obese children, I recommend a double dose. For a six-seven-year-old child, 1,000 units, for overweight, 2,000 units, let’s bring vitamin D to normal”.
