Valve’s New Steam Deck: A Closer Look at the Major Changes

The OLED screen is the most eye-catching feature of the new Steam Deck, but Valve has made major changes to the device elsewhere

Valve recently announced a new version of the Steam Deck with an OLED screen. As the opening of the device showed, many changes also occurred inside.

At Gamers Nexus we looked inside the new Steam Deck OLED and compared it with the old version of the device – the redesign is noticeable. The elements are now placed more compactly, their number on the board has been reduced.

Valve has rotated the chip (the pointer to OLED is in the lower right corner, while the original is in the left) and it is smaller: the 7nm process technology has been replaced by 6nm.

Instead of Wi-Fi 5, OLED uses 6E.

Cooling system too transformed (we turned the fan over, there are no thermal pads on the shield). Valve itself in advertising noted What “Thanks to a larger fan and an updated cooling system, the Steam Deck OLED does not heat up as much».
