A lion escaped from a circus in Italy on Saturday. The residents of the coastal town of Ladispoli must stay at home until the animal is found.
More than 40,000 people live in Ladispoli, near Rome. According to Mayor Alessandro Grando, the police are helping circus staff in the search for the lion. According to The Republic a helicopter also flies above the area.
There would be a track near the water, next to the circus grounds. It is not clear how the lion escaped. The escape happened just after 4 p.m.
Images of a lion allegedly walking through the streets of the town have been circulating on social media. According to the Italian newspaper, the images were taken by bystanders who saw the animal.
The mayor immediately addresses possible criticism from local residents who believe that he should not have given permission for a circus with lions. According to Grando, that is not possible in Ladispoli.
