The Royal Family Commemorates Remembrance Day in Honor of Fallen Soldiers

Every year, the British honor their fallen during the First World War, which is called “Remembrance Day”, also known as Poppy Day, which in the royal family is commemorated with a series of activities that this year will culminate this Sunday with the National Remembrance Service.

As the first act, Queen Camilla inaugurated the field of remembrance at Westminster Abbey, where she has planted her own cross of remembrance in front of two wooden crosses from the graves of unknown British soldiers from the First and Second World Wars.

The annual event, which marks the beginning of the nation’s remembrance commemorations, has been held every year since 1928, when the poppy factory brought a tray of poppies and a collection tin to the grounds of St Margaret’s Church .

Only a handful of poppies were planted around a single cross, but it began a tradition that has grown over the decades, and now a sea of scarlet poppies covers St Margaret’s Churchyard in the abbey grounds every November.

After the two minutes of silence, Her Majesty toured the field of veterans, representatives of military organizations and members of the public who had planted tributes in memory of their fallen loved ones.

For his part, the Dean of Westminster, the Reverend David Hoyle, shared “for the 95th time in the field of remembrance we gather again to remember those who gave their lives in the conflicts of our time so that we could enjoy freedom and peace”.

For the occasion, the queen chose a sober and formal outfit with a green coat with slightly puffed sleeves and black details that she combined with black leather gloves and high-heeled boots. Her only accessory was a black headdress with a green feather signed by Philip Treacy. Likewise, she added a brooch of the traditional red poppy, a symbol of these celebrations.

Tonight, King Charles III and Queen Camilla attended the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall in London, accompanied by the Princes of Wales, William and Kate, and other members of the royal family.

This is a memorial concert conducted by the Royal British Legion, dedicated to all those who lost their lives during the conflict.

Likewise, a tribute was held for Queen Elizabeth II and her husband, Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, with the unveiling of two two-meter-high bronze statues made by the British artist Poppy Field.
