Albanian Federation Stops League Games in Memory of Raphael Dwamena

The Albanian federation decided to stop all league games on Saturday in memory of Raphael Dwanema.

Ghana international Raphael Dwamena died today of a heart attack during an Albanian Football League game between Egnatia Rrogzhine and Partizani, the Albanian Football Federation said in a statement.

The 28-year-old striker, who has already scored nine goals this season in the championship, which his club (Egnatia) leads, played for Salzburg – Benfica’s Champions League opponent -, but his career was affected by the identification of heart problems, who prevented him from joining English club Brighton in 2017.

The player underwent heart surgery in 2020 and had a defibrillator implanted which allowed him to continue his career, having played in Denmark, Austria and Switzerland before heading to Albania in 2023.

The Albanian federation decided to stop all league games on Saturday in memory of Raphael Dwanema.
