The Lee Valley VeloPark was packed to witness the victories of Harrie Lavreysen (Netherlands) and Katie Archibald (Great Britain) and to see the strong defenses of the leadership of Dylan Bibic (Canada) and Ellese Andrews (New Zealand) despite leaving with empty hands. The first win of the night turned out to be Roy Eefting’s. The Dutchman was ahead of everyone in the men’s Scratch, attacking two laps and then had a nice duel with his pursuers to take a surprise victory. The Dane Tobias Hansen pursued with all his might to close the gap, but he couldn’t. In fact, he ended up being surpassed in the fight for second place by Bibic. But the surprises didn’t end there. In the women’s Scratch, Dannielle Khan (Great Britain) brought the crowd to its feet by beating Lily Williams (United States) to achieve her first victory in the UCI Track Champions League. Khan and Williams escaped from Sophie Lewis (Great Britain) with six laps remaining, but when she collapsed, it was the first two who fought for glory. Then the sprinters took center stage, with Matthew Richardson (Australia) and the aforementioned Lavreysen facing off once again in the finale, just as they had already done in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines. On this occasion it was Lavreysen who won the exciting battle. In the girls, Alessa-Catriona Pröpster (Germany) faced Katy Marchant (Great Britain), throwing her winning chip with just over one lap to go. Despite Marchant’s efforts to maintain tension, Pröpster proved too strong. For their part, William Tidball (Great Britain) and Jules Hesters (Belgium) gave a titanic battle in the Men’s Elimination. The duo had to work hard to get rid of our Sebas Mora to end up treating the public to one of the closest races of the night, and in which Tidball finally took the victory by a very narrow margin. In the women’s version, a big fall forced the test to be interrupted, giving way to the Keirin. Kevin Quintero (Colombia) achieved his first success in the UCI Track Champions League by defeating Lavreysen and Richardson, and Martha Bayona repeated the Colombian feat by withstanding a late attack from Andrews. With the wounds healed, the Women’s Elimination closed a memorable night, from which Archibald emerged triumphant. The British star proved too strong for Norwegian Anita Stenberg.
