Valve has officially unveiled the Steam Deck OLED – the ultimate version of the original gaming pocket PC
The screen boasts a size of 7.4 inches, HDR mode or a refresh rate of 90 Hz
The new Steam Deck also received other important improvements, especially longer battery life and more efficient cooling
Valve has officially introduced an improved version of the Steam Deck handheld gaming device. It is mainly dominated by a 7.4-inch OLED display with a refresh rate of 90 Hz and a new battery, which should promise up to 50% more endurance. However, don’t expect a performance advance, the video game giant is sticking to its plans, according to which a more powerful model won’t be available until a few years from now.
The Steam Deck OLED, which can therefore be seen as an improved version of the original device, will go on sale on November 16. Customers can choose from two variants according to the size of the storage – for 512 GB they will pay 569 euros (approximately 13,970 crowns), while 1 TB will cost 679 euros (approx. 16,670 crowns). The variant with a 256 GB SSD disk and an LCD display for 419 euros will also remain on sale. The LCD model in the 64 GB or 512 GB version will be withdrawn from sale by Valve after the stocks are sold out, until then you can buy them at a discounted price.
Better in every way
Are you wondering what news the improved Steam Deck actually offers compared to its predecessor? The screen swelled by 0.4 inches, the refresh rate jumped by 30 Hz, and the brightness of the newly added HDR mode reaches up to 1000 nits. Newly, the game console houses a 50 watt-hour battery, which should be enough for 3-12 hours of gaming, depending on the content. Faster RAM, a quieter fan and more cooling are also worth mentioning.

The changes in the guts of the pocket gaming PC also had a positive effect on the weight, which decreased by 29 grams. Other goodies include a more accurate haptic response, louder speakers with an improved bass component, modern Wi-Fi 6E for up to three times faster content downloads, Bluetooth 5.3 support or an LED indicator with multiple colors.
Selected foreign journalists have already tested the new product thoroughly and according to the published reviews, it is an improvement in many respects with almost no compromises, especially in the area of battery life, cooling and, of course, the new screen. OLED displays are often associated with the fear of image burn-in. “We have verified that OLED technology can offer a long life,” said Yazan Aldehayyat, a hardware engineer for Valve, saying that the company had been conducting rigorous testing at maximum brightness for several months. “Our hardware warranty covers issues with all Steam Deck components, including the display,” added Valve product designer Lawrence Yang.
