South Central Timor – A suspected rabies patient named Manya Ello from RT 08, RW 03, Niki-Niki Village, Amanuban Tengah District, South Central Timor Regency (TTS), East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), was reported to have died on Saturday (11/11/2023) around 15.25 WITA. Manya is the 10th patient who died as a result of being infected with mad dog disease.
“Yes. He died at home,” said the Head of the TTS Health Service, Ria Tahun detikBaliSaturday afternoon.
Ria explained that previously the 22 year old man underwent medical treatment at the Niki-Niki Community Health Center on Tuesday 7 November 2023 with symptoms of fear of water and wind. However, the next day the patient asked to be sent home.
“The patient was forced to go home on Wednesday afternoon,” he explained.
Ria explained that initially Manya was bitten on the back of her right hand, leaving a scratch. The incident occurred in early June 2023.
However, the patient did not report it to the medical team and also did not wash the bite wound. So you can’t get the anti-rabies vaccine (VAR).
Later, Manya felt the typical symptoms of rabies. These complaints began to be felt four days before he was taken to the Niki-Niki Health Center. When he arrived at the health center, he was immediately given intravenous fluids.
Furthermore, Manya was given a sedative at the request of his family. After that, the family asked for a complete blood test. The results are within normal limits.
As a result, after the doctor gave an explanation regarding the laboratory results, the family asked them to take Manya home. They then wrote a letter refusing treatment in front of the Head of Central Amanuban District.
“At that time, the patient went home in an unstable condition,” concluded Ria.
