From November 11, the Ministry of Health of Belarus raised the price of one of the popular antihistamines, which doctors often prescribe to Belarusians for allergies and colds. The cost, depending on the packaging, will increase by 18.7-26.4% compared to the previous one. We looked at how much you will now have to pay for a package of cold medicine to reduce the symptoms of an allergic reaction, such as runny nose, nasal congestion, cough, itching and watery eyes.
New prices for loratadine tablets produced by the Pharmland enterprise were established by Ministry of Health Resolution No. 168 of November 1, which was published on the National Legal Internet Portal.
Loratadine is a second-generation antihistamine that is used to treat allergic reactions, particularly colds. The principle of action of the drug is to block the action of histamine, a chemical substance that causes an allergic reaction. Loratadine differs from similar drugs in that it does not cause drowsiness (unlike first-generation antihistamines).
From November 11, the department set the following prices for loratadine in 10 mg tablets produced in Belarus:
- the drug in a blister pack of 1 blister of 10 tablets – 2.49 rubles (+52 kopecks or 26.4%);
- the drug in a blister pack of 2 blisters of 10 tablets – 3.99 rubles (+80 kopecks or 25%);
- the drug in a blister pack of 3 blisters of 10 tablets – 5.68 rubles (+89.5 kopecks or 18.7%).
Telegraf previously reported that the Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade announced a transition to “fair” prices for medicines from December 1. It is from this date that reference pricing for medicines should be fully operational in Belarus. According to the department’s management, it “will ensure a balance between affordability and economic justification of prices.”
The department also explained why prices for medicines in Belarus have increased noticeably in the last three months.
